Bill Pappas Wins N.C. Bar Association Public Service Award

Raleigh, N.C. – Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP is pleased to announce that Bill Pappas has won the North Carolina Bar Association’s inaugural Alfred L. Purrington III Memorial Public Service Award. Bill was recognized for giving “freely and selflessly of his time and energy in public service, through charitable and service organizations, for the benefit and betterment of his community,” according to the NCBA.

The award was established in early 2019 to honor the memory of Alfred L. Purrington III, the founder of the NCBA’s Business Law Section and a dedicated public servant. Bill is a former chair of the Business Law Section and has also held leadership roles in a variety of nonprofit, corporate, and legal organizations, including serving on the board of visitors for UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center since 2006.

Bill has a passion for children that has shown in his leadership with the Marbles Kids Museum and the Raleigh Kiwanis Foundation. Bill served on the board of directors for Marbles from 2002 to 2008. More recently, he has given back to the Raleigh Kiwanis Foundation, joining its board of directors two years ago and currently serving as its vice president. In those roles, Bill has continued demonstrating his dedication for improving the lives of children through a variety of service projects.

He has also played an important role in the growth of North Carolina’s life sciences industry. He has represented its leading catalyst – the N.C. Biotechnology Center – for more than two decades. He also leads Parker Poe’s Life Sciences Industry Team, helping the firm serve some of the top pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in the world, as well as clinical laboratories, government and nonprofit research organizations, entrepreneurs, and scientists. 

Bill received the Purrington Award at the annual meeting of the NCBA’s Business Law Section on February 14.
